Long story short… majority of the city of Memphis (my hometown) is not pleased with the replacement of K97fm’s most favorable radio personality and morning show trio: Mike Evans, Big Sue, and funny man Prescott!
On Thursday, June 8, 2017… K97fm [Memphis’ only Hiphop and R&B station] announced its welcoming of the famous radio syndicate The Breakfast Club to the radio station.
The Breakfast Club is an American syndicated radio show based in New York City hosted by DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God. It currently airs in 50 plus markets around the country and on REVOLT every morning. Common topics of discussion on the show are celebrity gossip (especially in the hip hop industry), progressive politics, sexual and dating issues. ~ Wiki
Station listeners in Memphis take to social media, more so on IG, soon after the announcement. They are mostly against the idea of bringing the radio show, who has no roots to the city and are already famous enough, as they say. They are offended that local radio stations are being canceled out and replaced by such radio show syndicates, leaving no uniquness to cities across the nation.
We all , especially my generation, have grown up listening to these guys each and every morning before school, on the ride to school, or getting dropped off at a friends house to walk to school!
I actually went to college (ITT Tech) with Prescott’s son, which was an honor for me, even though he’s just as regular as any other person. The fact that we were friends and that he sounded like Prescott himself, was good enough for me. Lol
Although we will miss our favorite morning show hosts, we still hope for the better for them all in their future endeavors.
“Memphis will never be the same!”
